In the small city I work in, a video of two high school girls fighting each other went viral this week. While most were shocked about the violence, I was in shock about the fact this ended up on YouTube.
Now, don't get me wrong. The fact that these two young ladies used violence to solve their problems is horrible. However, why in the world would you ever put that online?
In the world of social media, I don't quite think my generation understands what the consequences are when you get too personal via the World Wide Web.
Before I go throwing stones at everyone else, it is time for me to look in the mirror. There have been plenty of times when I have shared too much with the world on my Facebook or Twitter.
The shocking thing is in real life I am incredibly private person. However, sharing what is going on in my life or in my head via a status update is just so easy. Maybe, that why I like it. I can finally get things off my chest.
However, I have learned it is sometimes better to leave things unsaid. It has been said before and I will say it again, what is on the Internet will stay on the Internet forever.
So, think before you post. You don't want to be embarrassed about something stupid you did in your twenties.
