Girl Crush: Katy Perry

Let me just say that I think some of the things Katy Perry does are just for show. I don't think she's as hyper-girly as she wants us to think. (Although, she's definitely still weird and quirky in the best ways.) But she's smart enough to know how to create a persona that will get you famous. Taylor Swift did the same thing and she makes more money in her sleep than I ever will awake. I have total respect for anyone who can figure out how to make it without totally compromising themselves.

With the songs I've been hearing from the new album, I think the real Katy Perry is finally rearing her head. No more releasing singles just because they're catchy. I love "Last Friday Night" as much as the next Feather Girl, but that song was obviously written with radio play in mind. A friend told me she didn't even know Katy could sing until she performed "Not Like the Movies" at the 2011 Grammy Awards. When I hear "Thinking of You" from her first album or "Wide Awake" from her new album, I get a glimpse of the Katy Perry I'm crushing on.

No matter which Katy she is, she's a talented singer and even a more talented performer. She also reminds me of a friend who could make any situation fun. What's not to crush on, really?

My absolute favorite thing about Katy Perry? She signed her divorce papers with a smiley face!
