Do you have a particular beauty routinethat you swear by? With the summer heat quickly approaching, does your makeup regimen become relaxed and flow with the season, or more involved to fight the elements like humidity and oily skin? I used to rely on sunscreen alone, but now I've learned that I can have my cake and eat it too—just not during bikini season.

I may be a fashion girl, but I've always shied away from beauty products. So many makeup artists have discouraged me, claiming my skin is “too light for foundation”and no product can cover my red undertones. I've even been told I'd have to mix three foundations to get the right shade for my skin tone (Talk about marketing!) I remember growing up and seeing the Beauty Awards in Instyle Magazine—all I could think was: do women really wear allof these products?

At this point I had just discovered eyeshadow. How was I supposed to correctly blend three foundations? And, if there isn't a color right for me, how would combining three shade stoo dark for me produce a foundation light enough? None of this seemed to add up, so I took a makeup hiatus.
When starting my fashion blog, I realized it was time to learn about beauty, so I could better understand the entire aesthetic. I spent hours scouring beauty tips from bloggers, watching smokey eye tutorials on YouTube, consulting local Ulta employees and testing different products. After having many foundations (that claim to provide 24-hour coverage) drip down my cheeks within 15 minutes, I've finally reached a level of relative makeup expertise. Now I have a few products and secrets to share with you Feather Girls for summer!
I'd like to say my summer beauty routine is as relaxed as lounging on an exotic beach with a copy of Vogue, but it's not. I do, however, like to look like I have an effortless summer glow; we all know that even “effortless” looks require work. Here's a list of my must-have beauty products for summer to help you achieve a dewy sun-kissed look.
1. When it comes to achieving a flawless face, apply moisturizer before you put on foundation, even if you have oily skin. One of my favorites is the Hydrating Face Cream by Bobbi Brown. In order to make sure your skin is protected from the sun, opt for a tinted moisturizer with SPF 15 or above like Pure Radient Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30/PA+++ by NARS. For cheeks and lips try a long-lasting stain like Posietint by Benefit. Add that dewy glow to your cheeks once the stain has dried with the newest addition to my makeup collection, the Girl Meets Pearl Highlighter by Benefit.

2. My secrets for long-lasting summer eye makeup are not exactly newsworthy. I recommend waterproof eyeliner, Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner by Stila, and waterproof mascara, BADgal Waterproof Mascara by Benefit. One lesser known tip, is to apply primer to your eyelids to ensure your eye shadow doesn't smudge; my favorite is Shadow Insurance Candlelight Softly Illuminating Anti-Crease Eye Shadow Primer by Too Faced.

3. If you're looking for that natural glow without basking in the sun, try Tan Towels for a quick, even, natural-looking glow.

4. My last tip for a perfect summer look is to style your hair in sexy, wind-blown waves. Get the look by using salt-infused Surf Spray by Bumble and bumble. Apply to wet hair (particularly at the roots) and scrunch with your fingers. Let your hair blow dry for best results.
